The European co-funded project entitled “Integrated approach for the development across Europe of user oriented climate indicators for GFCS high-priority sectors: agriculture, disaster risk reduction, energy, health, water and tourism” (www.indecis.eu) is closely approaching the first year of activity.
INDECIS will contribute to the Climate Services arena with a set of sectorial indices and an R Package for easy computation and visualization. After first General Assembly and Kick-Off meeting held in December-2017, the consortium engaged in discussions for the definition of the indicators. A set of 134 indices for temperature (43 indices), precipitation (25 indices), bioclimatic (20 indices), snow (13 indices), aridity/continentality (10 indices), cloud/radiation (7 indices), wind (5 indices), fires (5 indices), tourism (4 indices) and 2 indices for drought have been identified. INDECIS attempted to engage the sectors in their definition. For example, a workshop was held in Alcañiz (Spain) to discuss with local stakeholders from the tourism sector their needs in terms of climatological information and climate services. Further exchanges with the sectors are expected to fine-tune how information from these indicators can be useful for them.
